AMGEN SINGAPORE AND SCIENCE CENTRE SINGAPORE LAUNCH SPARKLABS BY AMPOWER TO EXPAND HANDS-ON BIOTECH LEARNING FOR 1,000 YOUTHS IN SINGAPORE

New take-home discovery kits bring real-world science into homes, widening access to STEM learning for underserved youths and supporting early interest in science pathways

Singapore (6 June 2026) – Amgen Singapore (NASDAQ:AMGN) and Science Centre Singapore today launched SPARKLABS by AMPower, a take-home, hands-on biotechnology discovery programme that puts real-world science into the hands of youths aged 10 to 14 through guided experiments, automation concepts, and basic coding missions.

A pilot of 1,000 SPARKLABS kits will be distributed through the AMPower Science Camp, part of Amgen Singapore’s flagship community outreach programme, in partnership with Science Centre Singapore, expanding access to hands-on STEM learning for youths across Singapore, particularly those from underserved communities.

Through mission-based learning, participants step into the role of “Lab Heroes,” completing hands-on challenges that reflect how biotechnology works in the real world—making science tangible, practical, and relevant beyond the classroom.

“At Amgen, we believe every scientist starts with curiosity, but curiosity needs opportunity. Through SPARKLABS by AMPower, we’re putting real-world biotechnology directly into the hands of youths, so they can experiment and see how science is used to develop medicines. As a science-led company, this is how we make science tangible early, by building confidence, opening doors, and expanding access to opportunity,” said Wallace Torres, Vice President, Amgen Singapore Site Operations.

“SPARKLABS by AMPower reflects our commitment at Science Centre Singapore to make science accessible, engaging, and relevant for everyone. Its hands-on format allows students to experience first-hand how science connects to real-world challenges and careers. Partnerships like this allow us to broaden access to meaningful STEM experiences and empower the next generation to build confidence, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of science in their everyday lives,” added Dr Lee Song Choon, Senior Director, Education, Dome & Observatory Division, Science Centre Board.

As a global biotechnology company that discovers, develops, manufactures, and delivers innovative medicines, Amgen supports STEM outreach to broaden access to hands-on science learning and spark early curiosity, especially for youths who may have fewer opportunities to explore science beyond the classroom.

The launch of SPARKLABS builds on the longstanding partnership between Amgen Singapore and Science Centre Singapore, which has supported science education initiatives since 2016, including the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) and AMPower Science Camps.

An international programme funded by the Amgen Foundation, ABE Singapore continues to advance biotech education for secondary and tertiary students—sparking curiosity through hands-on learning while supporting teachers with professional training, access to research-grade equipment, and updated curriculum. Since its inception, the programme has reached more than 5,200 students across 98 schools, helping bridge classroom learning with real-world scientific application.

AMPower, launched in 2020, brings science beyond textbooks and into the hands of youths and their families, particularly those with fewer opportunities to access hands-on STEM learning. Through practical, age-appropriate experiences that build curiosity, confidence, and a sense of possibility, the programme has reached more than 600 participants across 11 runs, engaging youths from diverse backgrounds through community partnerships. Nearly half of participants have been girls, reinforcing a shared commitment to widening access and making STEM pathways more inclusive.

SPARKLABS by AMPower extends this approach beyond the camp setting through structured, take-home biotechnology discovery kits. Through hands-on missions in applied science, automation, and basic coding, it enables more sustained engagement with real-world science—giving more youths the opportunity to explore, experiment, and see how science comes to life.
